DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — Frank Barragato, a 69-year-old Delray Beach resident, has seven kids, but this year one of them, Gina Barragato, holds a special place in his heart.
She’s in town this weekend to spend time with dad.
Gina says, “He’s got a bigger heart than I thought growing up and we’ve gotten really close we’ve gotten much closer it’s just a new bond.”
Father’s Day isn’t the only reason Gina is in town. Frank is currently in the early stages of kidney failure, going to dialysis three times a week and taking countless pills every day.
Frank describes his daughters as stubborn, “she had the terrible twos for 12 years I think.”
And true to her nature, she wasn’t going to let her dad go without a fight and volunteered her kidney.
Frank says, “I told her no we had all the family together at one point and I explained to them I was not taking a kidney from any of my kids.”
She was a perfect match and is ready to donate.
According to Gina, “It’s awesome it makes me feel really good to be able to do it.”
All of Frank’s kids will be in town this weekend, he and Gina go into transplant surgery Monday Morning.
A GoFundMe account was created to help cover Frank's medical expenses.
