Delray Beach PD gears up for annual holiday toy drive

The Delray Beach Police Department is gearing up to brighten the holiday season for thousands of kids once again this year.

Last year, they gave out about 10,000 toys to more than 2,000 children.

The police department is passing out about 70 to 80 toy drive donation boxes to local businesses, but expects that number to climb to more than 100 businesses by the end of the holiday season.

They are looking for new, unwrapped toys for kids 5 to 16 years old.

They also have a surplus of toys that were donated after Christmas last year that will get them started for this year's drive. They keep the drive going until mid-January for people who want to donate duplicate toys from Christmas.

The police department donates some of toys collected to kids at Bethesda Children's Hospital as well.

"We get names from schools, social workers, church groups and other agencies of kids that are in need of a holiday, and without the toy drive and without these participants and partners, we couldn't do it," said Detective Adrian Rackauskas.

If you are interested in donating, you can look for a donation box at local restaurants and businesses, or stop by the police station at 300 W. Atlantic Avenue, or any Delray Beach Fire station.
