Police ask public to help find homicide suspect

Posted

Police in Delray Beach say a man shot and killed last month was a peacemaker.

Wednesday detectives released a picture of the person they believe killed Jarvis Collins on February 18.

They believe Collins was trying to stop violence from spreading when he was killed. Investigators say there had been a shooting earlier in the day as part of an ongoing feud between two families.

They believe Collins, 30, was talking to the families to prevent more shootings from happening.

"We know Jarvis Collins was, on the day of his death, trying to end that cycle of retaliation and violence and unfortunately he wasn't successful," explained police spokeswoman Dani Moschella.

Police say the shooting took place on the 200 block of NW 7th Avenue. Collins drove himself to a fire station for help, but paramedics could not save his life.

Police believe someone knows who killed Collins and they are asking for the community's help identifying the shooter.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Det. Gary Ferreri at (561) 243-7800 or report anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at (800) 458-TIPS (8477), online at www.crimestopperspbc.com or by texting tips@cspbc.com.
