DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — Many South Floridians spent Memorial Day pumping iron and pouring sweat to honor a decorated Navy SEAL who died while courageously serving our country.
Around 60 people packed Crossfit Delray Beach Monday morning to challenge themselves with the Murph Workout.
The fitness challenge is named after Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy, a Medal of Honor and Purple Heart recipient who was killed in combat in Afghanistan in 2005.
The Murph Challenge has become a staple of the Crossfit community and involves:
- 1 mile run
- 100 pullups
- 200 pushups
- 300 squats
- 1 mile run
During the entire workout, competitors have to wear a 20-pound vest or body armor. This was the same workout Lt. Murphy would do when training.
We thank you for your service Lt. Murphy, and all the brave men and women who serve our country!
