PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — The heartbreaking case of a newborn baby girl found alive in a dumpster in suburban Boca Raton last week is sparking interest in adoption.
ChildNet, the lead agency in Palm Beach County for adoption and fostering, said they've received nearly 30 calls into their hotlines since the baby girl was found.
CEO Larry Rein said the child is not up for adoption right now, but they have 1,700 children who are in their foster care system.
"We are trying very much to educate the public," said Rein. "There is child abuse happening every day."
Rein said ChildNet is at an all-time high for the number of children in the foster system and they need more foster parents. He added ChildNet started a new marketing campaign to bring more awareness to their need.
"Better aware of what the situation was, and that it doesn’t take something this dramatic to excite their interest," Rein said.
