Parents pulled some students from class at Park Vista High School Friday after what the school called an “unfounded” threat.
Students said they heard there was a threatening message written on a bathroom wall which said, "I'm going to shoot 11 people can you guess who?"
The news then spread on social media.
School police and the principal say there was a message, but police determined it was not credible.
"It's unconfirmed because anyone could have written that. We don't know what the intention was when they wrote it. So, as far as a shooting happening, obviously there was not one happening here today." said Palm Beach County School District Police Captain Ezra Dilbert.
"We would not bring our kids to a situation if we thought there was a credible threat," Park Vista High School Principal Reginald Myers said.
Park Vista sent the following recorded message to parents.
"Attention Park Vista parents. This is a very important message about Park Vista High School. We are aware of a threat made to our campus that has irresponsibly shared on social media. We want to stress that these threats have been investigated and are completely unfounded. Your children are safe and the campus is secure. Teaching and learning is happening today on the campus of Park Vista High School. We understand the concerns given the current issues in our nation, so please know we take every threat seriously and the safety and security of all our students remains our very top priority.
It is important to stress to your children that sharing these threats on social media only perpetuates unnecessary fear and panic. Instead they should be encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to school police by calling 561.434.8700 or by dialing 911.
Thank you for your continued support of Park Vista High School and the School District of Palm Beach County.
