PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — It's a crime of opportunity that police expect to see more of this time of year: package thefts from porches.
A Gulf Stream homeowner says a package was stolen from his home Monday afternoon, and their security camera caught the whole thing.
Two weeks ago, a homeowner says a woman was caught on camera taking this package in southeast Boynton Beach. And according to Rabbi Schmuel Biston, a thief got away with his package in Delray Beach.
"He did close the gate nicely so that was nice of him," said Biston. The rabbi says his Ring camera recorded the crook stealing the Amazon delivery.
Boynton beach officer Denise Schrecengost says they expect to see more package thefts around the holidays. There are ways to make sure you don't become a victim to a porch theft
"You can actually get a parcel box that you can purchase," said Schrecengost. "Let them know you have a parcel box on the porch and it will have a lock on it and when they put it in they will have a lock on it."
Schrecengost also says requesting a signature or delivery to an office can help.
As for Biston, he's changed the way packages are delivered.
"I actually put in the notes now to please come around and drop it in my garage because it is gated," said Biston.
Police do ask if you have a package stolen to report it to them, not just post on social media.
