FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- Family, friends and members of the community gathered to say their final goodbyes to Demarcus Semer.

The funeral took place at the Havert L. Fenn Center in Fort Pierce Saturday.

Semer, 21, was shot and killed by police during a traffic stop on April 23.

Friends of Semer said he will never be forgotten.

“It crushed me, I couldn’t believe it when I heard what happened,” said Wildrika Henton, friend of Semer. “He was so respectable, he would do anything to help anyone he knew.”

“I’ve always said, 'If we lose Demarcus, we lose one of the good ones,'” said James Monds, one of Semer’s former football coaches. "He tried hard to be an example, a role model for kids here in St. Lucie County."

The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the circumstances around the officer-involved shooting.
