FP police arrest suspect in fatal shooting

UPDATE: Authorities say Jason James, the man shot in Fort Pierce early Saturday morning died at the hospital Saturday afternoon. 

The suspect, Kevin Thomas, was arrested on charges of Attempted First Degree Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a convicted Felon and Violation of Felony Probation.

The charge of Attempted First Degree murder was changed to Homicide following the victim's death, officials said.

The Fort Pierce Police Department is investigating an early morning shooting that left one man seriously injured.

The incident happened Saturday at 1:05 a.m. in the 500 block of N. 31st St. in Fort Pierce. 

Officials say the victim, 28-year-old Jason James, was approached by the suspect, who they say started an argument, pulled a gun, shot James once and fled the scene.

James was transported to Lawnwood Medical Center in serious condition. 

According to Sergeant Jason Braun with the Fort Pierce Police Department, the suspect was apprehended by Fort Pierce detectives at the scene and is under custody. 

The investigation is ongoing.
