Tuesday afternoon, holiday meals were given out in the Fort Pierce community outside Sylvia’s Flower Patch along Avenue D.
The woman who owned the store, Sylvia Tommie, passed away from cancer in 2014.
Her son said she loved her community, and this is a way of honoring her commitment to the area.
“My mom would also cook dinners for a lot of people who didn’t have. My mom would always go out of her way to make sure that others had dinners on Thanksgiving," said Alexander Tommie with the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
Congressman Brian Mast joined the volunteers today. Among them, a number of young people who founded the Treasure Coast Hope for the Homeless Foundation.
More than 300 turkeys and over 1,000 Cornish hens will be gracingThanksgivingg tables thanks to today’s event.
