A Fort Pierce woman says her Samsung phone charger nearly caught her house on fire.

Loretta Englishman says she has had her Samsung Galaxy S6 for more than a year. She's also had the same charging cable that came with her phone.

She says she has never had major issues with her Samsung products, until last week.

Thursday, Englishman says she plugged in her phone to charge next to her bed before she fell asleep.

She woke up to smoke.

“I immediately realized there was a fire and I couldn’t see. It was just white smoke,” Englishman said.

She grabbed a cup of tea she had nearby to put out a fire. It burned some of her bedding, her laptop and her nightstand.

“It caused a fire in my house,” said Englishman.

When the smoke cleared, she searched for the source.

“I looked at the charger, like the actual wire, and it wasn't normal. There’s no other reason there would be a fire next to my bed like that.”

The wire was singed and appeared to burn from inside the wire.

She contacted Samsung and told a representative about the fire and shared her safety concerns.

The charger, she says was the only cord plugged into her surge protector.

“I just want them to let me know what they’re going to do about the situation,” she said.

In a series of phone calls and emails with Samsung, she has asked for reimbursement and information.

Has this happened to anyone else? She's still waiting for that response.

“I just don’t want it to happen to anyone else either.”
