Off-duty Fort Pierce police officer charged with DUI after motorcycle crash

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — A 23-year-old off-duty Fort Pierce police officer faces driving under the influence charges after a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in November.

The Fort Pierce Police Department said in a Friday news release that Officer Steven Schroeder has been placed on administrative leave.

Police said the crash occurred on Nov. 10 at about 1:52 a.m.

Schroeder has been on personal leave since the wreck.

Schroeder was hired by the Fort Pierce Police Department on Feb. 13, 2017. He is currently assigned to the Community Policing Bureau, District 1.

He faces the following charges:
1. DUI impairment blood or breath alcohol level of point 15 or more
2. Failure to register vehicle
3. Operating a motorcycle without a proper license

The incident is under investigation by the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
