Two-vehicle head-on crash in Fort Pierce leaves one dead, two seriously injured

UPDATE: One person is dead and two are seriously injured following a crash in Fort Pierce Thursday evening. 

The crash happened at 9:58 p.m. on Seaway Drive. 

Police say a silver 2007 Dodge Ram truck driven by a 25-year-old Fort Pierce resident was traveling west on Seaway Drive when the vehicle veered into the eastbound lanes of traffic at the crest of the South Causeway Bridge colliding head-on into a green 1997 Ram truck driven by 20-year-old Michael Sloane of St. Lucie County. 

Soane was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger and the driver of the silver truck were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. 

There were no other occupants in either vehicle, officials say. 

The Fort Pierce Police Department Traffic Homicide officers are investigating the crash.

The South Causeway Bridge, also known as Seaway Bridge, is back open after it was closed for several hours overnight following a crash. 

Fort Pierce police tweeted at 1:39 a.m. that the bridge was back open.
