PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- A group of conservationists hoping to stop a bridge from being built that would go through a state park in Port St. Lucie held a demonstration on Sunday at Halpatiokee Trails and Buffer Preserve.
The trail, located inside Savannas Preserve State Park, could soon become a construction zone if city officials give the green light to extending the Crosstown Parkway east to U.S. 1.
Organizers say if the bridge comes through the park, it will destroy the ecosystem and habitat.
The alliance says they should be hearing back from the city this week if a permit is issued.
