PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- A man was arrested after police say he carjacked an Uber driver in Port St. Lucie and then robbed another victim at an ATM.

An Uber driver was picking up a fare at Cashmere Corner in the 800 block of St. Lucie West Boulevard on Monday night, just before midnight.

According to Port St. Lucie police, Eric Alan Thompson, 31, approached the Uber driver and ordered him out of the car at gunpoint. Police say Thompson was wearing a black bandana covering the lower portion of his face.

The driver exited the car and Thompson jumped in and fled.

Police say Thompson then drove the vehicle to Chase Bank in the 1700 block of NW St. Lucie West Boulevard, where he pulled up to a man at an ATM and robbed him at gunpoint.

Police say Thompson stole approximately $50 from the victim and then fled in the stolen car.

The victim got into his car and began following Thompson, who fled north on I-95. As the victim followed Thompson, he called 911 and reported the robbery.

St. Lucie County Deputies spotted Thompson driving the stolen red Toyota in the area of I-95 and Okeechobee Road.

Deputies stopped Thompson in the parking lot of Jai-Alai on Kings Highway.

Thompson was taken into custody. The handgun, which was determined to be a "bb" gun, was located in the car with Thompson.

Thompson was turned over to Port St. Lucie Police Detectives and booked into the St. Lucie County Jail.
