PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Construction is underway at several busy intersections in Port St. Lucie. It’s part of the half-cent sales tax approved by voters in 2018 to make major improvements to St. Lucie West Boulevard.

City officials say the goal is to alleviate traffic and enhance pedestrian safety throughout town.

The St. Lucie West and Cashmere boulevards intersection is under construction to add a northbound left turn lane and a new eastbound right turn lane.

The city says all four legs of the intersection at St. Lucie West and California boulevards are in need of additional left turn lanes.

Additionally, turn lane extensions are needed at Peacock and St. Lucie West boulevards at the intersection of Bayshore Boulevard. A southbound right turn and through lane is needed there as well, said the city.

Construction also started at the Torino Parkway Roundabout located at Torino Parkway and California Boulevard.

Widening California Boulevard is also on the list of projects that will be funded with the half-cent sales tax. Construction for that project is expected in 2026.

As construction continues, the Port St. Lucie Police Department wants drivers to pay extra attention when they are out on the road.

You’ll notice cones and barricades which police say are necessary as crews continue working and they want you to watching out for them.

Port St. Lucie Police Department reminds drivers to put their phone away to avoid any distractions. Be prepared to stop, follow instructions from crews, follow the speed limit and remember fines are doubled when workers are present. Be patient and give yourself extra driving time.
