A Treasure Coast woman says she and her friend are alive thanks to the help from some strangers she's calling her 'guardian angels.'

According to police, the woman was driving on Biltmore Street, and accidentally hit the gas instead of her brakes at a stop sign, which sent her car into a lake across the street.

Chris Ursum and Adolfo Izeta say they were towing a truck nearby and saw it all happen.

They say they immediately jumped in, swam to the car and got the women to roll down a window. They say they then helped the women out of their seatbelts and pulled them out of the car.

Witnesses say, at that point, several other men and a 15-year-old boy had jumped in and helped the women and two original rescuers to shore.

Police say the car was submerged by the time they arrived.

Officers say the two women didn't even have to go to the hospital, however, because of how quickly the men jumped in and rescued them.
