ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla.-- The newest member of the St. Lucie County Fire District is on the job, and this employee works for food.
Camy is a trained arson dog, and was out on her first case in Port St. Lucie Monday morning.
it’s her job to look for any accelerants that may be at the scene.
The fire district says Camy can cut down on investigation time.
"We’d have to collect samples and send them off to the crime lab to have them processed. Now Camy, with her nose, she can cut that time for us, lead us in the area of fire and we can send that off to crime lab and get it processed quicker," said St. Lucie County Fire District Inspector Joe Cox.
Inspector Cox and Camy make up one of only 270 K-9 fire partnerships in the country.
