Detectives in St. Lucie County said a woman's body has been identified after it was recovered Thursday night near the Fort Pierce Inlet.

Sheriff Ken Mascara said at about 7:15 p.m., 911 dispatchers received a call from an off-shore salvage boat of a body discovered north of the inlet.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officers responded to the location and recovered the body, which was transported to the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Fort Pierce.

Mascara said the body has been identified as Dawn Marie Caso, 48, of Fort Pierce.

The sheriff said Caso was found wearing a bathing suit and upon further investigation by deputies, personal belongings positively linked to Caso were found on north beach.

No physical sign of trauma was evident on Caso.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the official cause of death.
