BELLE GLADE, Fla. — Calls to end gun violence in Belle Glade were made on Friday after three shootings in the last three weeks killed two people and injured six.
"The fact is in our community, Belle Glade, it has been happening over and over again," said Mayor Steve Wilson. "The question is, what are we going to do about it?"
Members of the local clergy, residents, and business owners were joined by Palm Beach County deputies.
"Unfortunately, many young people decide to handle the disputes with firearms," said Maj. Eric Coleman, who said PBSO has added deputies to the area and is using Shot Spotters and cameras to solve crimes.
Maj. Coleman said two arrests have been made in the most recent shooting on Monday.
"We hope to get back on track and keep this community safe," Maj. Coleman said.
"We realize we have been losing too many through the act of gun violence," Mayor Wilson said.
