A family of 10 is left without a home this Christmas. A fire fully engulfed the family's Belle Glade mobile home Monday afternoon.
Three adults and seven children in the home are receiving immediate help from the Red Cross. They had just put up their Christmas tree last week and were looking forward to the holidays.
It took Elazar Sanchez Garcia 17 years to build he home he had in Belle Glade.
"You feel bad because the little bit you had, you worked so hard for to just lose it in minutes," said Sanchez Garcia in Spanish outside of his charred mobile home in the 1500 block of NW Avenue P.
He and his wife are from Mexico. The couple work in landscaping and sugar cane fields to make ends meet for their children and grandchildren.
"I was mostly worried about the children and my wife," said Sanchez Garcia,
He says his wife walked to the corner of the block to pick up her grandson who was just dropped off from school. In the minutes she was gone, smoke started coming out of the home. She ran back to get all of of the children out.
"So sad cause they don't have anything," said Lizeth Sanchez, Elazar's daughter who lives nearby with her husband.
Lizeth left work and rushed out her parents house. Now her young brothers and sisters, her nieces and nephews are left without a home. The children's ages range from 16-years-old to two-months-old.
"I'll just have to work harder so I can continue to move my children forward," said Sanchez Garcia.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue says at this time they still don't know what caused the fire. In the meantime, 11 days out from Christmas, the Sanchez Garcia family is starting again from scratch.
