Eight Glades area students get the chance to attend a competitive basketball camp in New Jersey

Eight students from Glades-area high schools will be heading off to New Jersey over the next couple of weeks for a competitive basketball camp.

The students were picked from hundreds of others by former NBA all-stars.

"It's bigger than the game, though, it's about exposure; just getting them some life experience away from the Tri-City area," said Glades Central coach Kenneth Torrence. He's a 26-year veteran of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

""Coach T is an amazing coach; I just thank him for all he (does) in the community because without him I wouldn't even be the ballplayer that I am now," said one player.

Another added: "I really put a lot of work into it because of Coach T and his basketball camp, like, all the drills that we do is, like, really helpful and I thank him a lot."

The girls head to New Jersey next week and the boys will have their camp the following week.

The Palm Beach County Police Athletic League and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Foundation plan to cover expenses.
