Friday is the last day to register your drone with the FAA without facing a fine if you bought it prior to Dec. 21.
The FAA requires users to register drones weighing anywhere from a half pound to about 55 pounds.
The agency was under pressure to regulate the industry after a swath of crashes and violations of the basic rules.
Registration costs $5.
After Feb. 19, users must register a drone before its first flight or face a civil penalty of up to $27,000
Some municipalities have made their own rules pertaining to drones, so users are urged to check area laws before flights.
