CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Authorities are investigating after they say two macaws were found shot and killed in Coral Gables. Local media outlets report the birds were found March 23 on U.S. 1.

Police say one of the birds was shot in the head and the other in the face. Authorities believe the birds were fired upon by a BB gun or low-caliber rifle.

Coral Gables police spokeswoman Kelly Denham says the birds aren't owned by anyone and are part of Coral Gables, which has a high bird population.

Denham says shooting any bird in the city of Coral Gables is prohibited. Police haven't identified any potential suspects.
