Three people were killed after the vehicle they were riding in crashed into a lake and became submerged in Deerfield Beach Tuesday, officials said.
The crash happened on the Sawgrass Expressway near the northbound Florida Turnpike ramp just before 6:30 p.m. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue officials said.
When fire rescue crews responded, the vehicle was submerged in the lake about 20 yards from the roadway. Divers from Coral Springs-Parkland and Margate-Coconut Creek fire departments assisted Broward Sheriff firefighters in a search of the lake and found the three victims, officials said.
One of the adults was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two victims were taken to Broward Health North in very critical condition, and later died of their injuries, officials said.
The victims were identified as 47-year-old Boby Matthew, 41-year-old Dolly Matthew, and 16-year-old Steve Manoj, all from Coral Springs.
The cause of the crash will be investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol.
