MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) -- Wildlife officials say two green anaconda snakes were recently found along Florida's Space Coast.

Officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on Monday said that an 8-foot, 8-inch snake was captured in a Melbourne, Florida neighborhood and another snake was found near the border of Brevard and Orange counties.

Wildlife officials say in the first case it appears that the snake had been a pet based on the fact that a domestic rat was found in the snake's stomach.

Wildlife officials were unable to determine whether the second snake had been used as a pet since there was no examination of the remains.

Neither snake was tagged with a transponder, as is required by state law.

The agency prohibits the use of the snake as personal pets.
