Crowds are gathering at the Miami Airport Hilton for what Marco Rubio is hoping is his victory party.
His supporters have been anticipating this night for quite some time even though Rubio joined the U.S. Senate race late.
His opponent, Representative Patrick Murphy, used Rubio's desire to run for president against him during the campaign - stating that if elected Rubio would not finish his 6 year Senate term - to run for president in 2020.
Rubio has said he made the right choice to run to keep his Senate seat.
He says now it's up to the voters, “I began my campaign in March of 2015 as a run for president, of course that didn't work out and I didn't think I would run for reelection. The opportunity presented itself. We got into this race very late. It was the right decision. I'm glad we made that decision. So it's been a lot of work in a short period of time. But it's been an extraordinary experience and I hope it's rewarded tonight with victory."
