Inmate attacks cellmate over loud snoring

KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) — Deputies say a Monroe County jail inmate was caught trying to strangle his cellmate because he was annoyed by the man's loud snoring.

The incident happened Saturday afternoon at the facility on Stock Island in the Florida Keys.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin says a corrections deputy heard cries for help coming from a cell. When he approached the cell, he saw 30-year-old Darvin Cano Murillo sitting on top of 61-year-old David Reedy with a mesh laundry bag around his neck.

The deputy called for help from the medical unit.

Reedy later said he'd been sleeping when the attack began. He said he struggled with Murillo for a few minutes before being able to call for help.

Murillo was charged with aggravated battery. It's not known whether he has a lawyer.
