FORT MYERS, Fla. ---- One man is in the hospital after a deputy-involved shooting late Monday night.

During a press conference, a Lee County Sheriff's Office spokesperson says deputies pulled a car over for a traffic stop around 9:45 p.m near the 4000 block of S. Cleveland Avenue in Fort Myers.

Deputies say as they were conducting the stop, a man got out of the car and ran about a quarter of a mile down the road, before deputies caught up to him outside the Howard Johnson hotel.

The spokesperson says when deputies caught up to him, he pulled out a gun and eventually pointed it at the deputies.

Those deputies then shot the man.

The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

No deputies were injured.
