A suspect was injured in a deputy-involved shooting in Pompano Beach Monday, officials said.

The incident was reported in the 800 block of Hammondville Road, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

BSO Sheriff Scott Israel said deputies were involved in a traffic stop of a reported stolen car when the driver reversed to hit a deputy, and the deputy dove into his car to avoid being hit, Israel said.

At the same time, another deputy fired at least one round at the suspect, who then started to drive away and bailed out of the car, Israel said.

Deputies set up a perimeter and took the suspect into custody. Once he was in custody, the deputies realized he had a bullet wound to his shoulder area, Israel said.

The suspect was hospitalized, treated and released and will now face charges, Israel said. His name wasn't released.

A deputy suffered a leg injury in the incident.

Hammondville Road was closed between Northwest 6th Avenue and Northwest 18th Avenue while the incident was being investigated.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting, Israel said.

The incident is the second deputy-involved shooting in Pompano Beach in less than a week. On Friday, a 56-year-old man who had a knife was shot and killed by BSO deputies, officials said. That shooting also remains under investigation.
