Does 'Tampon Tax' discriminate against women?

Woman files class-action lawsuit
Posted

Should there be sales tax on tampons?

A Tampa woman doesn’t think so and has filed a class-action lawsuit to repeal the tax.

She wants millions of dollars refunded to customers who have paid it, according to the Tallahassee Democrat.

Several state agencies and major retailers are among those being sued.

The suit claims the tax violates Florida law and discriminates against women, Politico.com reports.

The lawsuit is the third major lawsuit arguing states discriminate against women by taxing them for essential feminine hygiene products while not taxing men for non-essential products like Rogaine, according to Jacksonville.com.
