(WESH, NBC NEWSCHANNEL) Orlando police released dramatic video of an officer-involved shooting that happened earlier this month.
An incident that could have proved fatal for both the officer and the suspect all started with a seat belt violation.
The department released body cam footage Monday showing what led up to the officer- involved shooting at North Lane and Pine Hills road January 16th.
The report states the driver kept moving back and forth in what would turn out to be a car stolen out of Orange County.
Two officers try to force him to stop.
"Put your hands on the wheel now,” they say.
With glass breaking from the officers’ batons, the driver backs up again and backs into a blue car. A horn sounds and then you hear the driver try to make an escape.
The reporting officer said the car comes right at Officer Jonathan Mills who was forced to fire.
Another angle from store surveillance shows the driver maneuvering, getting shot at and making a sharp left turn.
We are told the driver was hit in the shoulder, but kept driving nearly half a mile away where he hit a vacant home and he and two others ran.
Officers caught up to the 17-year-old then, taking him to the hospital and then to juvenile detention -- accused of aggravated assault on an officer.
Officer Mills, is on paid administrative leave and FDLE is investigating.
