Escaped zebra shot to death in northern Florida

CALLAHAN, Fla.-- An escaped zebra was shot and killed in north Florida Wednesday.

The animal, named Shadow, broke free from a ranch in Callahan.

It was roaming a neighborhood when its owner shot and killed it.

According the the local sheriff's department, the zebra became injured during its escape which is why its owner put it down.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says the owner didn't have a permit for the animal.
