SARASOTA, Fla. — (SNN/NBC) - A baby in Sarasota, Florida, made a timely entry into the world for the new year.
A'Lani Rock was born just one second after midnight at 12:00:01 a.m. on Jan. 1!

Mom Geurtsie Rock would have preferred a Dec. 31 birthday for the eighth member of the family. But at 4 pounds, 9 ounces, A'Lani will celebrate a birthday starting in the new decade.
Labor nurses determine the time of birth as the last part of the baby coming out of the mom. In this case, it was A'Lani's little toe.
Dad now has bragging rights.
"The baby was supposed to come at like 11:50 p.m., but she wasn't ready, and we were patient. As soon as we counted down, 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, I was looking at the television, as soon as it said one, I looked down and the baby was out," said father D'Marus Rock.
A'Lani missed being part of a record-breaking year at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. They recorded an all-time high for births in 2019 with 4,107 babies.
