An infant in the Florida Panhandle has died after being left in a hot vehicle this weekend.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said the 7-week-old baby was left in a van Sunday for about eight hours in the city of Mary Esther.

The sheriff’s office said they received a 911 call around 9:30 p.m. after the child was discovered dead inside a van at a family member’s home.

The family member reportedly was not aware that the child’s mother had placed the baby in a rear-facing car seat inside the vehicle after church around 12:45 p.m.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case. No charges have been filed.
