LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.-- Dozens of snails were recently discovered outside a home in Lee County, Florida.

Joseph Rousseau saw the snails when he walked out of his house Wednesday morning. It appears that the snails came from the canal in his backyard. "I've never seen so many. It was amazing I was like, 'wow where did they all come from?' "

Rousseau's family had to shovel them off with a broom. He eventually sent hundreds of the snails to their graves in a bucket of saltwater.

"They could be actually trying to seek shelter going closer to the shade perhaps in that particular location, the eave of the roof or something like that," said Stephen Brown with Lee County Extension Services.

Brown says as the season changes and weather warms up, the snails won't stick around.

He also offers this advice: "Beware of snails and the only place to get friendly with snails is in a good French restaurant."
