(WBBH) Police in Fort Myers have arrested a mother after her 4-year-old daughter's gunshot wound was left untreated for nine days.
Police say Shanquisha Upshaw and her daughter Shania Cody were staying with friends. The home had an unsecured gun and the child accidentally shot herself in the leg.
Mary Jackson, Cody's grandmother, said she was the one who ended up driving the child to the hospital after Shania's mother lied about the girl's injuries.
She said she rushed the child to Lee Memorial Hospital where doctors determined she needed surgery immediately. A bullet was still lodged in her foot.
Upshaw faces a charge of aggravated child neglect.
