MIAMI (AP) — Authorities say a Florida Highway Patrol trooper fatally shot a motorist near a park and ride parking lot north of Miami.
Highway patrol spokesman Major Chris Dellapietra told reporters the shooting happened as the trooper conducted a traffic stop at the parking area near the Golden Glades interchange Tuesday evening. He says the driver and the trooper got into "some kind of confrontation" and the trooper shot him.
Dellapietra said the investigation is in its early stages. He did not identify the trooper or the motorist.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting,
No other motorists were injured.
