The judge overseeing the death penalty case against admitted Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School killer Nikolas Cruz on Wednesday ordered jury selection will begin on Jan. 27, 2020.

Judge Elizabeth Scherer has been planning for a January 2020 trial date since last February, the one-year anniversary of the massacre that took 17 lives in Parkland.

On Wednesday she made it official, telling attorneys to have pretrial motions filed by Dec. 27.
