MARATHON, Fla. — Fishing lines entangled a rare sea turtle off the Florida Keys on Sunday.
Video from the Florida Keys News Bureau shows specialists from the Keys-based Turtle Hospital and members of the U.S. Coast Guard freeing the critically-endangered leatherback sea turtle Sunday afternoon.
The crews removed lobster lines from the its neck and front right flipper.
Recreational boaters called for help after spotting the turtle in distress about 2 miles off Marathon in the Middle Keys.
They were able to free the reptile, estimated to weigh more than 500 pounds, without harm.
