MIAMI (AP) -- A South Florida man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for a botched drug deal that led to a fatal shooting.
The Miami Herald reports that Marcelyn Mathieu was sentenced to 35 years in prison Thursday. He was convicted of murder in December.
Authorities say Mathieu had met with Evani Galvez in a Miami Gardens parking lot in July 2011. The drug deal fell apart, and Galvez drove away in his Jeep. Mathieu was the passenger in a car that chased Galvez for a short time.
Witnesses say Mathieu leaned out the window and opened fire, fatally striking Galvez and causing the Jeep to crash.
Key evidence against Mathieu included footage from a red-light camera that captured the car chase.
