EUSTIS, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say an armed man was killed and a police officer was wounded while exchanging gunfire outside a Florida business.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that the shooting happened Wednesday afternoon at an AutoZone store in Eustis.

Police say an officer responded to the business following a report of a suicidal person with a gun. Police spokesman Jim Franquiz says Dillan Ezell came out of the store and crossed himself. The spokesman says the man ignored the officer's instructions to drop his weapon, and gunfire was exchanged.

Ezell was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say a ricocheting bullet hit the officer's leg, but he was in good condition.

The races of the officer and Ezell weren't immediately reported.

Eustis is located northwest of Orlando.
