MELBOURNE BEACH, Fla. - The small, quiet town of Melbourne Beach has turned into a busy spot filled with local and national media since Thursday morning.

The frenzy came after an announcement that someone had purchased a winning Powerball ticket at a Publix in town.

Rumors spread across the tight-knit community of a local woman who'd won. Media quickly gathered outside her home, and police guarded the house for a good part of the day Thursday to keep everything under control.

Melbourne Beach Police officers say the woman told them she was not the winner.

Whoever the winner may be, he or she has up to a year to claim the prize of more than half a billion dollars.

Employees at the Publix store off of A1A where the winning ticket was sold will also receive money. The store is being rewarded $100,000 for selling the winning ticket, and it will be split among those who work there.
