Missing boy with autism pulled from South Florida canal dies

LAUDERHILL, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a 5-year-old boy with autism has died after being pulled from a canal behind his house.

Lauderhill police tell news outlets that Zander Brown slipped out of his house near Fort Lauderdale on Sunday evening.

The child's mother called for help and a number of police and rescue agencies searched the area. Divers found him in a canal around 10 p.m. and paramedics started CPR. The boy was taken to a hospital where he died.

Police are continuing an investigation.
