Officials: Deputy shoots man while serving felony warrant

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say a Florida Panhandle deputy fatally shot a man who was trying to take another deputy's gun.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office posted on social media that the shooting occurred Friday morning while deputies were trying to serve a felony arrest warrant on 35-year old Joseph Leland Fletcher.

Authorities say three deputies went to a Fort Walton Beach townhome and found Fletcher inside a closet.

The posting says Fletcher became violent, prompting one deputy to deploy a Taser.

The stun gun was ineffective, and Fletcher began struggling with a second deputy.

Authorities say Fletcher eventually gained control of the gun, and a third deputy shot him.

The encounter was captured on agency body cameras.

Officials didn't immediately identify the race of Fletcher or the deputies.
