One person is dead after police pepper sprayed them when they were “behaving abnormally.”

Police responded to an event at Carter Park Saturday afternoon. They were told that a person was “exhibiting abnormal behavior.”

Shortly after, police found the person in the middle of traffic just outside the park on West Sunrise Blvd.

When police tried to Baker Act the person, the person began resisting arrest and that’s when a brief struggle ensued.

Police then pepper sprayed the person. They were taken to the hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

The person’s identity has not yet been released, as officials are working to notify the next of kin.

An investigation is now underway.
