Pair arrested after 95 pounds of pot found at Dania Beach hotel: BSO

Posted

Complaints about the strong smell of marijuana at a Dania Beach hotel led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of 95 pounds of pot, authorities said.

The bust happened Saturday night when deputies were called to the Hyatt Place Hotel at 91 Southwest 18th Avenue after management received complaints about the strong pot odor, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

Deputies traced the smell to an unoccupied room where they saw sealed bags of cannabis, officials said. As the deputies waited for a search warrant, the two suspects, 34-year-old Calvin Braithwaite and 33-year-old Dyson Benskin, returned to the hotel and were taken into custody.

In addition to the 95 pounds of pot, $13,000 in drug money was seized, authorities said.

Braithwaite and Benskin, who told deputies they were visiting from Barbados, now face felony cannabis trafficking charges. Attorney information wasn't available.
