CAPE CORAL, Fla. (AP) — Police in Southwest Florida say a person of interest in a suspicious death may have been involved in the case of a missing bartender who disappeared while on her way to work.
News outlets report Cape Coral police released a statement Wednesday that said the person may be involved in the death of Kristine Ann Melton and the disappearance of Diane Ruiz. Detectives believe both involve foul play.
The statement says the person is already in custody on unrelated charges. It doesn't identify the person or specify charges have been filed against them.
The 43-year-old Ruiz disappeared Monday morning. Her purse was found abandoned on the side of a road. That same day, the 35-year-old Melton was found dead at an area home. Her cause of death is pending.
