(WESH/NBC NEWSCHANNEL) One man in New Smyrna Beach is beside himself with excitement after police returned his dog that had run away.
Kevin Young, who is a quadriplegic, was absolutely beside himself at the kindness of the officers who went out of their way to retrieve the pup.
The dog had gone missing while Young was in the hospital, and local police alerted every city employee to be on the lookout.
"This is why I got into law enforcement, helping someone like this," said Lt. Chris Yates of the Holly Hill Police Department.
Smiles and tears were seen all around the room as the dog was returned, and Lt. Yates went on to say that this moment would stay with him for the rest of his life.
