Python bites Orlando man sitting inside screened porch

(WKMG, CNN NEWSOURCE) Shaun Oleson says he still has the fang marks on his side after a 4-foot long ball python bit him.

The Orlando man says he was sitting inside a screened porch when he felt something sharp pierce his side.

"I don't remember actually grabbing like a snake. But when I reached back and I pulled it out, I screamed. It was latched onto my side so I ripped it off of my flank or my hip. I ripped it off and it just kept coming out. And I threw it across the patio," he says.

Oleson says he called 9-1-1, and paramedics determined the snake wasn't venomous.

He got a tetanus shot and some antibiotics. His friend ended up killing the python with garden shears.

So -- where did this snake come from?

News 6 alerted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission about the bite.

Since these snakes don't usually live in Florida a spokesman says his captive animals’ team is now combing their list of known ball python owners to see if any of them escaped.

Oleson says if that's the case -- he has a message for the owner.  "Think about other people. Think about animals and about the danger that's associated with if these things do to get out."

Wildlife officials say if you see a snake like the ball python, don't try to trap it yourself. Either call Animal Control or FWC.
